Can animal experiments inform human health care?
Animal experiments can inform human health care only if their results are valid and can be generalised. A systematic review of animal experiments on fluid resuscitation found that most studies were underpowered and provided little information on potential bias. Roberts and colleagues (p 474) suggest that systematic reviews across species would help determine whether the results could be generalised to humans.
