Can an R15 AREA application include a subaward to an AREA-ineligible institution?
An AREA award is permitted to have a subcontract to a non-AREA-eligible institution. However, applicants should keep the goals of the AREA program in mind when preparing the application, which include strengthening the research environment of the institution, and exposing students to research. Depending on the proposed project, it might be more appropriate to include colleagues at other institutions as collaborators or consultants.
