Can an outdoor patio umbrella be re-strung or repaired?”

Take it down, lay it on your picnic table and try to ‘follow’ the string and pullies. Some may be worn, broken or rusted. If necessary, remove the strings and pullies and bring them to your local hardware store. Hopefully they might have the string and/or parts. If not, I located the following Umbrella repair site, which has links to parts and repair ideas. But, if you can’t fix it, then consider a nice new umbrella such as the one below. Wal-Mart Umbrella – under $50 Good luck and let me know if it can be fixed. I have a 3 year old umbrella that’s showing it’s age too.

The cost for repairing such a thing would be high. It’s unlikely that anyone in your area does it and if they did, I’d be shocked if they could do it in less than a couple of hours at labor rates of less that 50 bucks an hour. You can get these umbrellas starting under 50 bucks – of course, they go up. I would replace rather than repair myself, unless there is a sentimental value thing going on. You might call a local handyman type who might give you a bargain for the joy of screwing around with it.
