Can an Open Loop (TCD 600) Tension Controller be used on wire or single strand textile materials?
Yes, but only with the Proximity Switch and Optical Encoder sensor package. The Ultra Sonic sensor has a hard time sensing the surface of either material type. And the Proximity Switch only sensor package will over correct by reducing the air pressure too fast because it assumes each revolution reduces the radius by the thickness of the material. This is not correct for a spool of material that reduces radius only once for each layer of material, not each revolution of the spool as with flat material like paper or woven textiles.
