Can an NP admit or discharge a patient from hospital?
Currently, NPs cannot admit or discharge patients from hospital. According to the Hospitals Act, only a qualified medical practitioner (defined as a physician), a legally qualified dental practitioner, or a certified midwife have admission privileges for persons in need of hospital services. The Act is silent about discharge privileges.
