Can an individualized education plan (IEP) meeting be combined and held concurrently with a meeting to determine eligibility?
School districts are free to determine whether or not to hold separate eligibility meetings before the IEP meetings or to combine the two steps in one. Appendix C to 34 C.F.R. Part 300, Question 8. Often schools will provide drafts of IEPs at a combined meeting, allow the parents to take the draft home for review, and convene a second meeting at a later date.
