Can an Australian citizen resume british citizenship?
>Before 83 I believe I was a British subject then lost it (obviously). Are you sure you lost your British citizenship ? You would have had to specifically renounce British citizenship in order to loose it. If however you are referring to the change in Australian law, which changed the designation of Australians from “British subjects” to “Australian citizens” in 1984 then this is not pertinent, as under UK law you were never a UK citizen. The way the Australians designated their citizens does not confer any rights to a British passport. So unless you definitely had UK citizenship by virtue of birth in the UK or UK citizens parents you never were a UK citizen and have to apply for citizenship as any other person. If you want to live in the UK you may qualify for an ancestral visa if you have British ancestors.
