Can an Anaconda really eat a human?
Yes, but only a child or a very small adult. They cannot swallow a normally-sized adult human – the width of our shoulders makes it impossible. On no account should you believe anything in the film ‘Anaconda’ – it was riddled with inaccuracy. The film-makers apparently did no research whatsoever before making the film. Of course, it wouldn’t have been very scary if they’d stuck to facts. For example, the snakes in the film were shown chasing after and catching fleeing humans. In reality, anacondas are so large and heavy that on land they can move only at a slow crawl – you could easily out-distance one walking, never mind running. They spend most of their time in water, which helps support their bulk, and ambush their prey rather than chasing it. Snakes have powerful digestive acids that can cope with bones, fur and feathers, so clothes would not present much of a problem. Anything that cannot be digested is simply excreted – you will often see remnants of fur or feathers in snake faec
