Can an ALC employee steady a client’s hand when the client is self-administering medication?

A. Yes. So long as the client administers the medication, the steadying of a client’s hand does not constitute a health service, as defined in KRS 216B.015. BP. It is recommended that, if an ALC permits steadying of a client’s hand, then this service be addressed in staff orientation and in-service education under assistance with self-administration of medication.
