Can an AAD facility earn carbon credits?
It is generally accepted in most countries that anaerobic digestion of organic waste controls greenhouse gases that would otherwise be emitted from landfills. Even when the gas produced from anaerobic digestion is combusted for energy production, the CO2 emissions are significantly less harmful as a greenhouse gas than uncontrolled methane release from the landfill. As a result, an AAD facility should qualify for greenhouse credits where such market protocols are established.
