Can an 18 year old in high school legally…?
You are an adult at 18. You can legally own property at 18. Your parents cannot legally stop you from owning your own place. However, you should listen to their reasons why they think you should not own your place. After you truly listen and understand why they do not want you to own your own place, you can then decide whether you should get your own place. If you get your own place you’ll need to consider all of your bills that you have to pay. You’ll have to pay rent or mortgage, electric bill, water bill, land line phone bill, cell phone bill, car payment, car maintenance, unexpected car repair bill, car insurance, car gas bill, credit card bills, TV cable bill, grocery bill, clothing bill, dry cleaning bill, hair and nail bill, Computer internet bill, etc. Will your income cover these bills? Think it over carefully.
Once you become 18, you are legally an adult, and can then sign contracts that are completely legally binding. You are then 100% responsible for yourself. Not even your parents can get you out of a contract that you sign when you are 18+, therefore your parents can’t legally stop you either. If this is a rebellion thing, listen to the reasoning that your parents are giving you. They are wiser and might actually have compelling reasons for not wanting you to buy a house at the moment. If you really want to do it though, they really can’t stop you.
