Can an 18 year old apply for subsidized (section 8) housing?

No, you do not qualify for Sec 8. Top priority for Sec 8 is the elderly & disabled, those who are unable to work any longer and have nothing but their Social Security. Next comes those who are either elderly or disabled. Then comes those single parents with minor children (usually in some program to get them off welfare). Waiting lists are long and growing. A 5-year waiting list is common. One city recently was reported in the news as having an 8-year wait for Sec 8. You are young, healthy, working, and need to take care of yourself. Either move back home with your parents until you finish high school, or rent a room while you finish school and work. BTW, you do not want to live in Sec 8 housing or some of the neighborhoods where Sec 8 housing is located. Yuck!
