Can adding additives to the oil to improve its performance?
Lubricants are blended together using defined base oils and selected additives. The final product is a stable and well-balanced formulation, allowing the oil to maintain all the characteristics even when stored onboard for long time. During the blending process, additives are added to the base oil in the ratios established by laboratory research to achieve both Chemical and Physical characteristics. After blending every batch is tested again to guarantee all the necessary properties and specifications required. The addition of “performance improving additives” can have adverse affects on the performance of the existing additives either as a result of direct or indirect reactions. The oil supplier cannot take responsibility for the performance of any lubricant that has had supplements added. Also, such oils no longer comply with the lubricant recommendations of most of the engine manufacturers.
