Can activated charcoal be used to beat sniffer dogs?
The only thing that might work would be black pepper or some kind of pepper derivative. It would have to be something that would cause the dog pain in order to keep it from wanting to track that specific scent. From what I heard is that sniffer dogs are trained by immersing it’s favorite toy is the scent of what agents want it to track. So the dog associates the scent with something that it likes and is quite determined to get at the source of it. So if the dog was to smell something that caused it pain, then it might be deterred. The key word being “might”. So activated charcoal would probably have absolutely no effect. Had some acquaintances back in the day that thought they were so clever. They hid some “contraband” is a large bag of dog food. When the cops came to serve a warrant, the dog went straight to the food. The cops argued with each other about who last fed the dog. Not finding what they were looking for, the cops left only to return a few weeks later with another warrant.
