Can abortion be considered ethically without religion being brought into the debate?

Let’s look at it this way. What is the abortion doing? It is removing a baby from a person before it is born. Well how does the baby get there? Somebody had sex. Now, barring rape, sex is an act that requires consent and one of the possible side effects is a baby. If you do not want the baby the easiest solution is do not have sex. If you do not want to deal with the consequences of an action do not engage in that action in the first place. If you need the act then you can deal with the consequences. Is it ethical to think you can do whatever the Hell you want and not have to worry about the consequences? If it is then what is the point of laws because by definition they would be unethical.
