Can AAD MERF handle non-MSW inputs (“side streams”)?
Yes, and this can be a significant source of revenue. Let’s say for example that at an ice cream factory stored product is spoiled because of a refrigeration breakdown. The spoiled product can be blended with waste at the terminus of the facility’s front-end, by-passing the separation/preparation machinery. Or consider the situation in which a collector of fats, oil, and grease (FOG) needs an environmentally acceptable depository. If the routine delivery of FOG is to be large, it might be necessary to add one or more IBR tanks. But addition of tanks to an AAD MERF is not a major undertaking, nor is it disruptive of ongoing service. In addition to the tip fee charged for side streams, a large amount of methane might be produced.
