Can a white girl enter into an African-American Beauty Pageant?
I agree that this does not help move the country in one direction. I also disagree about blaming black people, completely, for this lack of responsibility towards race relations or whatever. It is obvious, with the history of this country’s race relations, and with human nature in general, that minorities, feeling isolated and surrounded by a great majority, will band together and, basically, help segregate themselves. The racial problems in this country are very complex. Yes, a White-American contest would be deemed racist. No, an African-American one would not be. Yes, it is a double standard. But African-Americans and White-Americans have different histories, different standings in society, and different cultures. All issues must be viewed through the lens of each respective race. An African-American contest, if we are honest with ourselves, would probably be rooted in the same “banding-together” culture that produced hip-hop, crump dancing, jazz, etc… It is doubtful that is roote
