Can a vocalist get signed to a record label?
Of course it is possible. It is just a long and tedious process. Sure, you need a demo, but you need to develop some type of reputation in order to get signed. Perform as much as you can and get with as many top musicians for networking. Audition for different shows or musicals for experience. Make sure you have a good headshot along with your demo. Make the shot represent whatever image you want to portray musically. Truly have some patience. You are going to need it. Most singers with record deals don’t go through American Idol. That show represents 2% of signed solo artists. So you are correct in your idea of getting a career outside of AI. Just remember, it is great to be signed to a record label, but you will not get rich off the album. It is the concerts you book that get your pockets fat. Get your performing top notch so you can compete to stay on top after you get your record deal.
