Can a user created in Oracle9iAS Portal be assigned an existing database role?

0

All Oracle9iAS Portal users (called lightweight users) “map” to a database schema. By default most lightweight users map to “_public”. When a Oracle9iAS Portal user does some work, they are doing it “through” their mapped schema. If you have the correct Oracle9iAS Portal permissions, you can map the lightweight user to another schema. You can indirectly assign a database role to a lightweight user by mapping the lightweight user to a database schema that has the desired role. Use the Edit User link on the Portal Home Page to change a lightweight user’s mapped schema. Note that doing this decreases the hit-rate for the connection pool that is maintained in mod_plsql, since the schema-identity for a given request changes more frequently. Depending on the number of unique schema-identities, and their access rates, the performance of the system decreases.
