Can a US citizen teach in Western Europe?
Most countries in Western Europe are members of the European Union (EU), and there are labor regulations that restrict the employment of non-EU nationals. Although this means that English teaching jobs will be offered to British and Irish teachers first, there is an increasing demand for American English taught by American English native-speakers. Among Transworld Schools’ graduates, Western Europe is the most popular placement destination, Italy first, then Spain and Germany. Germany appears to be the easiest of the three to secure a work visa.
