A – In order to become an NQT and begin induction, trainee teachers must gain QTS. QTS is only awarded on completion of initial teacher training (ITT) and all three skills tests: literacy, numeracy and ICT. If an NQT begins induction without first being awarded QTS then the period worked will not be recognised. Induction cannot be assessed retrospectively and the NQT would have to redo their induction period. Employers should always check with the GTCE (Tel: 0870 001 0308) that an applicant has QTS before they employ them.
