can a softball pitcher block home plate?
I know in baseball the pitcher can block but is it legal in softball for a pitcher to block the plate or be off the plate with the ball and stand in the way of the runner? Isn’t this interference? You said the key word – with the ball. If a fielder in position to make a tag the runner has the impetus to avoid contact but stay within the baseline. It would not be interference as that can only be caused by the offensive player; defensive players commit obstruction. (Please don’t get me started on catcher’s interference.)
