Can a security guard write down my address?
A Security Officer would not be empowered to use this in any criminal action. Only a sworn Police Officer can. A Security Officer could give the information to the Police, but could not do anything on his own. He is a civilian, with no higher rank than you have. He would not be empowered to make an arrest as he was not a witness to the event, he is acting on 3rd party statement. For a Security Officer to make an arrest he must be a witness to the offense. In fact, the ‘filed a complaint’ is not valid as it cannot be ‘filed’ with him, only with a Police Officer as part of a formal document.
