Yes, but only with customer authorization. Competitive retailers may have demand response programs in which they can cycle air conditioners off when demand of service is too high. It primarily will depend on how much authorization the customer gives to their competitive retailer. Some competitive retailers are piloting programs covering several residential response initiatives in which customers allow remote control of HVAC units, pool pumps and electric water heaters.
