Can a radiator cap cause my cooling system to over-pressurize?
The radiator cap is simply a pressure release mechanism. It can release pressure but not create pressure in it self. Too much pressure in the cooling system is often the result of engine cylinder pressure entering the cooling system. The normal causes are a cracked cylinder head or leaking head gasket.
