Can a puppy get parvo if vaccinated?
Yes a vaccinated puppy can get parvo. The parvo virus can live forever. Also, the puppy might not have built up all the immunities necessary: vaccinations are given in a series to puppies in the hopes that one will take hold when the mother’s immunities are wearing off, but before they have dropped too much. It is possible that the mother was not vaccinated at all, in which case it could take awhile for your pup to build up its own immunities. I’d keep him isolated until he’s had his full series of shots. If your yard is fenced in and you know for sure that a puppy has never been in your yard with parvo, then it’s probably ok to let him into the yard, but I wouldn’t go any further.
I believe they can and that’s why puppies need to go through their parvo vaccinations every three weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. You’re probably safe in your own back yard but do not take them to a pet store or a dog park or even through their neighborhood on walks until you’ve completed your puppy vaccinations. Parvo is a virus and even though you’ve not had dogs in your yard that had Parvo, other animals can spread it as well.
