Can a private Christian school discriminate against a child with a known disability?
My son was diagnosed with autism at age 2 1/2. He received years of therapy and made tremendous progress. He has attended a small Christian school since kindergarten. He has always had terrific grades. He still has some issues. He is immature for his age (9) and his disabilities are mainly social. He is in the 4th grade now. The school, out of the blue, is now demanding that we provide a one on one for him, everyday, in his class. His teacher is someone who has had numerous parental complaints over the years. Last year, this class had a foster grandparent volunteer in the classroom all year and many people felt that this greatly improved the class. I sat down with the principal last spring and voiced my concerns about this teacher and his lack of structure. I was assured that the volunteer would be back and that they would have him be more structured. The volunteer left early in the school year.
