Can a plastic container contaminate the gasoline I store in it?

Contamination from plastics is a real health risk for people, but we are sensitive to very small amounts of contaminants. The tiny traces of impurities that are a risk or even lethal to us, are simply not significant for engines. The gasoline you use is not produced to laboratory standards. It comes with all sorts of trace residues of the refining process. If the plastic of the bottle has not actually dissolved in, say, 30 minutes – which I imagine you would notice! – then, as long as it began as a clean bottle, and not one with the remains of some previous contents, you have nothing to worry about. Yes, a washed out turpentine bottle should be fine.
