Can a PhD student be included as part of the costings?

We will fund them if they are a fully contributing member of the team (in which case their role should be described and justified in the normal way), but not if the only benefit is to their PhD. The student fees are not claimable as part of the NETSCC grant as they are not a direct cost of the piece of research; as we would be (if the application is successful) making a substantial contribution to indirect costs the fees should come out of those. If students are acting as research staff then we will pay the relevant proportion of the stipend (which is a direct cost of the student spending time on the project ) but not the fees.
