Can a person with kidney failure but not yet on dialysis drink coconut water?

I’m not so sure if it would be safe. If the average coconut yields about 200 ml of water. So a person who is predialysis should monitor their potassium and phosphorous intake: 1 coconut will have about: 41 mg of phosphorous (so that’s pretty good) 515 mg of potassium (that’s rather of high) So maybe it would be okay for a treat, or if you monitor what other high potassium foods you eat in a day, but that would be something that I would have avoided when I was predialysis. Trust me, you do not want to have a blood test that says your potassium is high, because the treatment for it, depending on dosage, Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate (Kayexalate) is NOT fun (ie. don’t make any plans for the next six-eight hours!
