A blood clot in the brain can cause a stroke, which can be (but is not always) fatal. If your friend has a blood clot in his brain, the doctors would have him on blood thinning medication to try to dissolve the blood clot on its own. A blood clot would not stay anywhere in the body for 8 years. Blood is constantly flowing through your veins, and if the blood clot is small, it will travel along the veins in the blood. It may dissolve on its own, or it may grow bigger and stick somewhere. If it sticks, that’s when there are problems…if it sticks in the brain, it causes a stroke; if it sticks in the heart or lungs, then it causes a heart attack. If the blood clot sticks, it usually causes a life threatening response within days, not years. I think your friend may be confused about his condition.
