Can a person cause vagus nerve stimulation without spending thousands of dollars on a Vagal Nerve Stimulator?

Many people would benefit from a VNS (vagal nerve stimulator) to treat depression or seizures but can not afford the device or the surgery to have it implanted. Insurance does not pay for it. I would like to experiment with other ways to stimulate the vagus nerve. I am a nurse who wants to find a more cost-effective alternative to the VNS and help people with depression and/or siezures.
