Can a non-health care departmental staff member administer medication to a youth?
If a sufficient number of licensed nurses are not available on-site to administer all oral prescription medications or OTC’s, then the delivery, supervision, and oversight of youth who are performing self-administration of medications must be carried out by trained non-health care staff. All facilities must have operating procedures in place that include the training of non-health care staff whose responsibilities include these duties.
