Can a new geologist update a report prepared by someone else ?
The answer to this question will depend upon the individual consultant. Many consultants will feel comfortable to take over a project if they have confidence in the initial company preparing the geologic report. It is normal for the new consultant to excavate additional test pits on the site to verify the findings of the previous consultant. Usually, much of the previous information can be utilized, saving the client costs associated with duplicating the work already performed. At times however, it may be necessary to start the work from scratch if confidence in the initial consultant’s work comes into question.
