Can a mother with genital herpes give birth to a baby with the same disease? ?
It’s very rare with modern medicine. If you contracted the herpes virus prior to pregnancy you will pass the antibodies to the baby in the womb. If your doctor knows you have genital herpes then they can prescribe an antiviral and you can deliver vaginally with minimal to no risk. Only some 0.001% of babies are born with neonatal herpes. It’s very rare these days to spread it to your baby. Those at most risk are women who contract Herpes while pregnant. Someone with oral herpes is more likely to spread it to their infant via kissing or if they touch the sore and then touch their baby.
