Can a mobile CB antenna work if it is mounted horizontally?
Modern CB antennas are cut at 4/5 wave.They do this to concentrate transmit power into a beam that is transmitted at a right angle to the antenna. The pattern is still 360 degrees around, but little power is directed up or down. An antenna system can be made directional by adding a second antenna. Big rigs with antennas mounted on both mirrors increase their range forward and aft, with less range left and right. So yes, it will work if mounted horizontally, just not very well.
