Can a metal detector be used anywhere?
You must have permission to search both private and public property from the owner or property manager. Information, permission and/or permits can be obtained by contacting the respective owners, Parks and Recreation Departments, City Hall or the applicable Federal, Provincial, State, Municipality or Regional offices. Established, known or marked historical sites, historical parks, and historical monuments are typically off limits to all metal detecting. Start with your own yard. Valuables can be found anywhere people have gathered, lived, sat, walked, played, camped, picnicked or traveled. Older currency, coins and collectables can be found in areas typically inhabited prior to the mid sixties, for example.
