If you have been hospitalized against your will, it did not happen without court orders. As long as family members or a health proxy is not standing in the way, they do have the right. ECT is very helpful in many circumstances. It works well to get schizophrenia, mania, suicidal thoughts, rage, addiction, etc… under control. It also comes in handy if you have become resistant (physically not by choice) to psychopharmaceutical treatment. It’s much safer than many of the drugs on the market. You will be asked a few question to test your cognition (memory), such as who you are, where you are, the date, who is president and so on. Then they will set you up on monitors of your heart, pulse, oxygen levels and so on. NO BIG DEAL! The only unpleasant time is the first treatment. They do not know your tolerance with symptoms such as headache, nausea, muscle pain etc… While they’ll give you meds for this, they may not be enough. After the first treatment they will ask how you feel. From there
