All cats will resent a newcommer, seeing them as an intruder for a period of time. Make sure you do not leave them alone together for the first week without supervision. Your 4 year old will come to accept the new cat eventually, but will need lots of love & reassurance in the meantime, to let her know she is not being pushed out by the new cat. The best way to help them is to give them seperate areas to eat & sleep, so that both will not feel threatened by the other.
