Can a Greek Orthodox Priest perform a wedding ceremony out of the church?

0

My best friend is Greek Orthodox and she was told that she had to have her ceremony in the church. This might be a strong preference though, I am unsure. While I know its not the same thing, I can tell you that I am a Roman Catholic and we too have to have our wedding in the church. My priest said its not an absolute ‘no’ but that there are only certain circumstances which he could perform it elsewhere, such as if the bride or groom was seriously ill, or other emergency like situation. They want to avoid people allowing such a religious occasion to be so removed and commercialized, he said. Im not sure how much my story helps, but between my personal experience and that of my best friend it kinda looks like a no. But, I would ask just in case.
