Can a GP do a blanket request for all residents at a RACF to have an RMMR done?
No. As mentioned above, it is essential that the resident is fully informed of the MBS service and consents to it before it can be provided. Also, an RMMR is available to new residents on admission to a RACF and existing residents on an ‘as required’ basis, where in the opinion of the resident’s medical practitioner, it is required, because of a significant change in medical condition or medication regimen. Medicare benefits are payable for a maximum of one RMMR for a resident in any 12 month period, except where there has been significant change in medical condition or medication regimen requiring a new RMMR. An RMMR service to all residents at the same time is not appropriate.
