Can a flue be built straight or should it have an offset?
The best performance is achieved from a straight flue, there is no regulation requiring a bend or offset, however an offset is often specified to prevent rain falling direct onto the fire or to avoid an obstruction. The maximum number of changes in direction permissible in one flue, is two, the maximum number of bends allowed to achieve this is four.
