Yes you can get a virus, and if you don’t have Windows Vista your computer will catch it as soon as you plug it in because it copies itself with the auto run (not opening any files is not enough if you don’t have Vista), you need to go in safe mode and then plug it in, scan it, if it’s clean you can go back to normal mode with no worries.
