Can a father cause FASD?
Although a father cannot cause FASD he can foster a healthy environment to support the mother. Partners who drink foster an environment where alcohol use is tolerated and encouraged. If a father chooses to stop drinking alcohol during the pregnancy, the mother is more likely to also stop drinking. Mothers and fathers can promote, support, and advocate for a nurturing home environment for themselves and their children. Fathers have the opportunity to be a positive role model for their children by not abusing alcohol.
