CaN A FALSE NAME ON AN EMAIL BE TRACED?
Any email can be traced by the IP and some other data sent. The IP can be traced to the ISP (Internet Service Provider). Most people do not bother having it traced unless it is a very bad harassment or threat, because: 1. The ISP has to be subpoenaed to release the private information and it usually involves hiring an attorney, paying a retainer and a search fee, and ends up costing a lot of money. 2. Even when the sender’s computer and account is found, it has to be legally determined that she was in fact the sender. Tell your friend that she might luck out and not be reported, but she should never do this again.
