Can a European Resident apply for Spanish nationality?
The Spanish Civil Code establishes the suppositions and requirements that those individuals wanting to apply for Spanish nationality must satisfy. In general Spanish nationality can be applied for after an applicant has legally resided in Spain for a certain period of time being 10 years, continually and immediately before the application is presented. There are exceptions however to this general rule, when the legal residency time period can be less. Generally speaking any citizen from a member country of the EU can apply for Spanish nationality after having legally resided in Spain for ten years. Furthermore, other requirements established in the regulations concerning the processing of Spanish nationality applications must also be satisfied as well as this aforementioned time period.
