Can a dimmer be used on low voltage under cabinet lighting?

Answer Greg: I’am going to assume that the low voltage lights are running off of a step down type transfromer. If so then you need a magnetic rated dimmer usually they will be rated in VA not WATTS. The reason is a standard dimmer controls the voltage, when you turn down the voltage to a transfrom it will work harder “hotter” to maintain the output. A low voltage dimmer control the current, whec does not make the transfrom run hot. They are usually more expensive units.
