Can a creditor have my unemployment checks garnished in CA? Can they keep my economic check?
The creditor cannot directly impose on your unemployment or your econ stimulus check. The creditor can, however, sweep your bank account, depending on the court order. So have someone else cash the checks for you. If you open another bank account, the creditor can still access it. They routinely send out notices to all banks in the state to locate your account(s).
