Yes and no. If you make up a second Social Security Number and use it to apply for credit that would be illegal. However, there is no law that we know of that states, if you are legally issued a second Social Security Number you may not use it to apply for credit with all new identifying information. Nor, have we ever heard, that if when applying for credit you must make it known that it is indeed a second Social Security Number you are applying with. Many attorneys feel that if you are issued a second Social Security Number by the Social Security Administration it is NOT illegal to use this number in applying for credit or for other identification purposes. Many attorneys justify this by the fact many illegal immigrants are presently using self made Social Security Numbers.
