Can a commonwealth citizen join the british army ?

He can join as a commonwealth citizen but you need to be in the country legally, he’d need to sort his visa out first them apply. Gurkhas are a different matter, Nepal was never part of the Empire and is not a part of the commonwealth, they were recruited into the Indian Army and later direct into the British Army by royal agreement with the Nepalese King. There is a petition ongoing to allow them to stay in the UK once they have competed their Service in the British Army http://www.gurkhajustice.org.

I believe if you are a member of a common wealth you can join the British Army (I am American but I believe that is the rules for joining the British Army, best to check their website)

Ghurkas (Nepalese soldiers) have been members of the British Army for centuries so I’m guessing yes.
